PPI Release

Following yesterday’s CPI release, we have PPI data coming out this morning.

Remember that you can think about the difference between CPI and PPI like this:

• CPI shows inflation on what we (as consumers) pay

• PPI shows inflation on what they (as businesses) pay

You can see that we have had a divergence between CPI and PPI which is unusual. While CPI has dropped over the last few months, we are seeing PPI increase.

This is relatively concerning as it means that businesses are going to have weaker margins, and thus earnings will be impacted.

We are looking to see PPI start to come down again in the data that releases this morning.
