S&P 500 Equal Weight Index
The S&P equal weight index takes all of the stocks within the S&P 500 and applies equal weighting to them to understand truly how the index is performing (instead of just the stocks that are most heavily weighted).
From the graph above you can see that we just hit a 2-year high, which is a great sign for the market.
This means that we are starting to broaden our rally and we are not being carried by a select few stocks.
Where are We Going?
Below is data that shows the performance of the market in different time periods after hitting a new two-year high:
While this is not statistically significant due to <30 data points, you can see 12 months later, every other time has shown significant gains in the market.
This bodes well for us but again it does not mean that it WILL happen, it tells us this is what has happened in the past.
